We’ve partnered with Faithify, a UU Crowdsourcing website, to expand our network of generosity to support our Haitian family as they rebuild their lives in California.
Our small UUCM community has raised over $10,000 so far to set the Andou-St. Forts up with plane tickets, family furniture and household items, a modest vehicle, clothes for a new climate, legal support for the detailed immigration process, and medical needs.
Our next goal is to secure safe and comfortable housing where the family can continue recovering from the trauma of the violence they experienced in their home country and make plans for their future. The Faithify campaign is asking for a year’s worth of rent and utilities to give them stability and security while they rebuild their lives.
The median rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in our county is $1400. Our $18,000 campaign amounts to $1500 per month for 12 months, which would be enough for rent and utilities.
The boys are attending school daily and Moustapha and Nazaire are making their way through the immigration bureaucracy to secure work permits and figure out next steps after the short Humanitarian Parole period ends. Your gifts would provide them a safe haven, allowing them to stay in a place they know, near people who love them while they continue to grow, learn, and thrive.
